They certainly didn’t know why he really wore gloves. Most weren’t even convinced he was human. No one ever suspected that Kaz Brekker was deaf.

Summary
Every new year hundreds receive a death sentence in the form of a black skull mark on their arm. Some spend their last days seeking pleasure. Others fall into despair as if they were dead already. Some rumors claim, he keeps their hearts in jars. He delights in tormenting them, others whisper. He made a deal with the devil for their souls, others are convinced. Whatever the reason, one thing is known: Kaz Brekker only hires those who are already dying. Kaz lets the rumors go because they are useful and because they are all less horrific than what he actually is.

It’s the first time in a while that he doesn’t know what comes next. He’s dove into the water hundreds of times. Screamed as his flesh was torn apart, heard Master of Puppets in the distance and held back tears. Felt Max’s cold, small hand in his as she laid in the hospital bed. There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.
Steve fails. They lose.
“Steve, how many loops have you been through?”
His head is nodding, and his eyes are watery, and Eddie has approached him like a spooked animal.
“I lost count.”
AKA: The one where Steve Harrington is stuck in a time loop, and Eddie Munson is really fucking hard to save, or: fuck Volume 2, these bitches are in love.

Julian opened his mouth to ask more and was hit by a pain he had never experienced. The boy cried out in pain and doubled over, arm wrapping around his screaming middle. His mother shushed him and pet at him until he was able to catch his breath.
“See what happens to naughty little boys who don’t listen?” Her voice was sharp. “I told you not to say anything.”
