Summary
There’s a man bleeding on the lobby couch. Which, okay, Grantaire has to admit, isn’t actually all that uncommon. The lobby couches have seen more than their fair share of vomit, beer, and various bodily fluids. The difference is that this time the one doing the bleeding isn’t one of the usual suspects. Which is to say that instead of a slightly smelly and sweaty teenager covered in spikes, the man on the shitty vinyl couch smells like cologne and looks almost proper, his unconscious body blanketed by a comfortable-looking red jacket.
or: The one where Enjolras getting kicked in the face off-screen is pretty damn crucial to the plot

Summary
"Have you slept?" he asks. Enjolras's shoulders shift, almost imperceptibly; the tension in them changes as his posture regains its usual firmness. "Have you stopped at all since Prairial?"
"That's not your concern."

Summary
Men like Enjolras belonged in books: those of ancient history, once the uglier facets of reality had been dulled by a forgiving editorial hand, or in poetry; in myths and legends that were by design exemplary, idealised projections, their heroes far too perfect to be wrought of anything but paper and ink.
If Cupid had struck Grantaire with an arrow of gold, he had surely struck Enjolras with an arrow of lead.

“We need you to be married,” Lamarque says.
“Pretend to be married,” Fantine clarifies. “Or pretend to be boyfriends, that’s fine too.”
“It’s the living together that’s important.”
Grantaire swallows. “I beg your pardon?”

Summary
Javert has his eye on a young suspect. Unable to get approval for an undercover operation, he goes it alone—but finds some unexpected backup.
-----
“How did you hear about the event?” asked the blond one.
"I heard about it from a friend,” said Javert smoothly. “He couldn’t make it tonight.”
“Ah, too bad,” said the curly-haired one. “What about you, Monsieur?”
“I’m with him,” said Ultime, only a fraction too slowly. He shot Javert a tight little smile, tilting his head slightly as if to say, Isn’t that right, new friend?

Summary
"Grantaire!”
It’s Enjolras. Holy shit, it’s Enjolras.
“Holy shit,” he whispers. “Enjolras?”
“Yes, R, it’s me,” says Enjolras breathlessly from somewhere above him. A hand pulls on his shoulder. Grantaire is alive, somehow. “They’ve moved past this street but we have to go.”
Grantaire lifts his head off the pavement, head swimming. “R?”
“Yes, you, Grantaire. We have to go. Can you walk?” Enjolras is pale, his mouth a thin, fierce line, his eyes alight with anger.
“How do you know my nickname?” asks Grantaire dumbly, his mouth full of grit from the street.
Enjolras tries to pull him upright by the shoulders. “They have water cannons, R, and they’re getting closer. Can we talk about this later?”
edit: changed description and added an epilogue!
