Summary
This work will alternate POV between Astarion, Gale, and Halsin, and focus on character exploration, and expanding on a lot of sub-plots from the game regarding the three of them. The canon events will still occur, but a little out of order, and sometimes for different reasons.
The main plot will revolve around Astarion’s gradual discovery of the Black Mass Ritual, and all the Infernal implications of its completion. His past trauma will feature heavily in this fic, and all that entails. The basic idea is that the Black Mass has been centuries in the making, and there are those in the Hells who would rather not see it succeed… at least not as Cazador intends.

In the six months since the Netherbrain's fall, Gale has surrendered the Crown of Karsus to Mystra, returned to his tower in Waterdeep, and accepted a teaching position at Blackstaff Academy. He forsook all notions of godly ambition and is content to fade into obscurity as Just Another Wizard. If he can't seem to put from his mind memories of the woman he left behind... well that's no one's business.
In the six months since the Netherbrain's fall and the loss of her parents, Shadowheart has endured the life of a fugitive. Constantly on the run from Sharran assassins, with little more than the companionship of her beloved dog to call her own, she is plagued both by the memories she has lost, and those she is cursed to retain. If she has nurtured her proclivity for overindulging in wine and seeks punishment for her past misdeeds... well, that's no one's business.
Six months after the fall of the Netherbrain, Gale and Shadowheart find one another again. Egos are bruised and feelings are hurt, but the spark between them has never been closer to igniting.
