Summary
He had stayed outside for an hour, until his fingers turned stiff and he hurried back inside to make tea for his mom. She had worked the night shift at the hospital, and she would want to drink something warm as well as kiss him goodbye before he got picked up for school and she went to sleep. She needed to relax, not fret about her son standing outside in the open without his gas mask on, breathing in the toxic air.
Or, Dustin, grief, and a far too cold summer.

Summary
“You were watching us last night,” the girl accused, and the boy lifted his gaze to look first at her, then at Eddie. A confused frown seemed to be permanently branded onto his face, mixed with a squint that screamed of a headache. No wonder, Eddie mused, getting a closer look at his bruises. He was probably concussed, should have stayed in bed. So naturally that it seemed like nothing else could have happened at that moment, the two reached out for one another and tangled their fingers together. Eerie, Eddie thought with a shudder, but also strangely endearing.
“Not much else to do around here,” he answered her statement somewhat belatedly with a shrug of his shoulder.
Or, ever since Eddie was admitted to this psych ward, he has been dying of boredom.

Summary
There was a chittering noise from the left. The soldier whipped around, pushed Erica bodily behind him and aimed his weapon at the dark space between two houses. He was breathing heavily, she noticed. Maybe he was a newbie after all, then.
While on patrol through Hawkins, a year after the world started to end, Erica is abducted by a soldier. Good thing she can count on her teammates to rescue her.

Summary

Summary
Thank Elbereth, she thinks as she tugs her cloak carefully around his shoulders, thank Elbereth that his eyes still shine.
She had feared them dulled, like those of the Noldor Galadriel had told her of when her mother could not hear, who had entered the Helcaraxë with her and her kindred but had not made it to the other side. Who had perished, though the ice never opened its gaping maw beneath them. Who had met their end with a tired smile on bloodless lips and frost in their lashes.
But here is yet hope, yet love. She has not lost him.

Summary
“Are you going to disappear again?” she asked. Her words were quiet, but they still pierced through the air clearly, and Elrond had no problem understanding what she said. He looked at the sky. The night was nearing its blackest, and he knew Arien set sail here long before she woke them in Beleriand.
“Not yet,” he said.
Sometimes, late at night, Elrond and Elros share a dream of white shores, a path through the woods and a Cottage at the end of it - and of a woman, who keeps insisting that she is their mother, who drowned long ago. Obviously, as Elros likes to remind his twin, she has to be lying.

Summary
“She’s gotta be from a wealthy family, right?” a thin woman pipes up from her place at the cavern wall, where she is sitting, hunched over and curled up, and Elwing startles. “I mean, look at her chemise.”
“I haven’t seen fabric as fine as this since the Bragollach,” a man behind her agrees, awe apparent and clear in his voice, and then they are all around her, staring, probing, running their bandaged fingers over the laced frills of her nightgown, whispering of weaving and sewing and spider silk, until she pushes at one hand with an angry yell and every one of them but the twins lets her go.
Or, after the worst day of her short life, Elwing asks a pair of twins for help and comes to regret it.

Summary
He can feel the bones in his wrist grind against one another as he is led through the dark corridors of his home, illuminated only by the splinters of faintly glowing stones in the ceiling, masterfully carved and set in, and connected by small groves that paint beautiful shapes he can nearly make out by day time. Lady Aredhel, his mother, has told him once that they are made to resemble the stars, that she recognizes the constellation of the night sky in the ceilings of their home.
Lómion has chosen to take her word. How would he prove her wrong, anyway? He has never seen the stars.
Or, Eöl decides it is time to name his son.

Summary
Elwë knew the woods better than he knew himself, knew which beasts he could safely follow and which were best left alone, and more than anything else, he knew how to recognize when he was the one being hunted.
He had known for a while, now.
A surprisingly dark reimagining of Thingol and Melian's first meeting. (It's me. I'm the one who was surprised.)

Summary
“Perhaps if we surrender,” he started, desperately, and spoke more swiftly as his brother’s eyes widened, “Perhaps they will release us – We might give them the children! We might, then you won’t have to teach them to fight, or, or how to speak Quenya, they would be gone, back where they belonged, it would just be us again! That’s what you want, isn’t it? If we give back the children, if we surrender, what if they take it away? Please, Nelyo, they might just take it away –”
Maedhros might as well have been a statue, cold and unmoving, the statue that their mother had prophesied he would be, well shaped indeed, but wroth and alight with a terrible flame that lit his soulless eyes from within. “By Illuvatar,” he said slowly, “We swore in our madness.”
Maglor found he could not look away.
Or, Maedhros wants to finally retrieve the Silmaril. Maglor does not want to go. We all know how this story ends.

“It can be like this,” he murmured softly into Tyelpe’s ear, “just like Eregion again, forever. Why won’t you believe that I love you? That I love being gentle with you?”
“This,” his beloved captive rasped, "is nothing like Eregion.”
“Whyever not, precious?”
A solemn moment before the end.

Summary
The howl that echoed from outside the cave they had found, and Finrod could not tell whether it was a few paces from the entrance or halfway across the arena, was enough to jerk Beren from his sleep, and the only thing that worried Finrod more than the boy tearing open the haphazard stitches on his hip was that the howls seemed neither human nor beastlike.
Or, Beren is dying, Lúthien doesn't understand the danger they are in, and Finrod does everything he can to get at least one of them to safety.

Summary
El turned around, letting her gaze wander through the void, then back at him. Much to his surprise, she let herself fall down to sit in the water, and patted the place next to her like she wanted him to sit down too.
"No, I can't", he said, shaking his head. "If I rest now, I don't think I will ever get up again, and if I stop moving, they might get me."
"The bats?"
"Yeah." She frowned at his throat, this time. "There's nothing else here. At least, there shouldn't be."
"I'm safe?" That seemed to take her a while, but then she said, slowly and carefully, "…They won't get you here."
Eddie is running through an empty place.

Summary
"I am honored to meet thee, Samwise Gamgee. But if I may ask, what tower dost thou speak of? I have seen none during my travels through these vast lands. Perhaps, one of thy size hast been able to find an opening in the mountainside? If thou hast, then please, i beg of thee to tell me."
Sam stared at Findekáno, utterly perplexed. "The – the tower we are standing in," he said, though there seemed to only grow more confusion (and suspicion, again) in those strange eyes. "In Cirith Ungol?", Sam tried. "On the border of Mordor?"
Or, Sam, Fingon and Lúthien all have a quest so similar that, against all odds, they meet.
