Having foresight on what happens in the future doesn't mean you necessarily need to use it to change what happens.
That is how you've lived through all this time. You know how this story goes. And with that knowledge, you pointedly try to avoid any chance to get involved by all of the main characters of this world as best as you can, no matter how nice it would be to know them personally.
It was something you forbade yourself to do. The results of changing the plot was one thing- your own reactions are another. God knows you'll go insane if you actually meet them face on. You're already hanging on a thread just trying to survive.
...But really, you should've known Cale Henituse would be too smart and dedicated to his slacker life to look the other way.

"You... don't you remember me?" he asked, finding it simply inconceivable.
And Lance, in other circumstances, would have been amused by that reaction, but there was a little girl he had to bring back to her mother; he hadn't slept for almost twenty-seven hours and needed a break.
"No, dude, now if you want to excuse me..."
The boy turned Lance to him, their faces a short distance away, purple eyes fixed on his, and Lance's treacherous heart skipped a beat.
"Blue Spirit, I'm Red Warrior. Do you really not remember me?"
At that point, Lance began to break out in a cold sweat. Of course, he couldn't remember him. Lance wasn't the real one.
(In which, due to a stupid stunt, the seventeen-year-old Lance dies and finds himself in the body of a villain of his best friend's favourite graphic novel, trying not to attract too much attention. Too bad for Lance, Keith doesn't make things easy for him at all.)

Plot be damned (to a certain degree), you were now a Strawhat member. But at what cost? Your sanity. Why? Because Luffy, now two years older than in the original story, was suddenly really hot to you, and he was giving you mixed signals. Will you keep the plot on track while preventing unnecessary hurt? Or will your relationship with the main character get too complicated for you to care?
