Lucifer gathered her close and tried to let the distance between them fade away. Her mortal lifetime, the thousands upon thousands of his years in servitude in Hell, the promise, the abandonment - he kissed her, and tried to push it all aside.
They were together now, happy and in love. That was all that mattered. The sacrifice and suffering had been worth it.
The alternative was unthinkable.

Summary
When Lucifer leaves Chloe for Hell with nothing but an unanswered love confession, she knows he's never coming back. She also knows there's only one way she'll ever be reunited with the man she loves. The only question is… what is Chloe Decker willing to do that would guarantee she ends up in Hell?
The next year is a slow slide into darkness — an eroding of her morals that Chloe can't deny she's starting to enjoy. It's frighteningly easy to rationalize her actions. She becomes an even better detective when she's willing to do things the bad way. She's starting to understand what Lucifer liked so much about breaking the rules, and then some. It's liberating, after a lifetime of taking the high road, and it's effective. After all, Lucifer's not coming back, so she'll have to go to him.
Until… he does come back. Right when Chloe's at her worst. She sees herself compared to who she used to be, the purity he fell for, and for a terrible moment she's scared that she's become someone he can't love. But thousands of years in Hell has rubbed off on Lucifer, too. He's darker, rougher, more brutal — just like her. And he doesn't seem to mind his dark Detective one bit.
In fact, they match quite well.
