“I didn’t expect I’d ever get the chance to see you in such a flattering light,” Laudna says once they’ve completed a turn, her full skirts coming to a still swishing calm around her feet. “It seemed we were always destined to meet in the darkness.”
Imogen smiles as they each step into each other’s space, and then back, switching their arms. She looks resplendent in her suit; dark breeches tucked into tall, leather boots with a fitted periwinkle shirt accented with a deep purple cravat and a long, embroidered grey coat. Their skin does not touch when their hands slip slightly, Laudna’s lace gloves simply brushing off of Imogen’s white silk ones.
“I wish it didn’t have to be that way.”

Summary
There’s a mix of emotions swirling in the depths of Laudna’s eyes - a vulnerability she’s not used to seeing - an intensity there that burns her, has her feeling shaken and seen all at once.
Imogen tries to avert her eyes, but Laudna is quick to lift her hand - the one not holding tight against her own - to caress Imogen’s chin, forcing Imogen to look at her.
