“Ah, it’s just…” Wei Ying trailed off, letting his hands slide up to Lan Zhan’s neck. “When I kiss you for the first time, I want it to be a moment just for us. But believe me, I have no qualms about kissing you in public. I’d be proud, even.”
The corner of Lan Zhan’s lips twitched upward. “When, and not if?”
“When, because I refuse to die without kissing you first,” Wei Ying said, gently tugging at Lan Zhan’s earlobe. “But not kissing you kills me a little more every day.”
When Lan Zhan imagined his reunion with Wei Ying, he never thought it would be because of a burst pipe in his apartment. He thought even less that this chance encounter would end with them spending New Year’s Eve together, crammed into the same dorm room where Wei Ying used to keep him awake at night whenever he snuck back in past curfew.
The dorm was just as cramped, and Wei Ying was just as much of a bother. The difference was that this time, Lan Zhan found himself crowded and bothered in ways he had once only dared to dream of.

During the uprising that brought down the Lan Dynasty, Wei Wuxian made a huge mistake: instead of saving the Second Prince of Lan, he delivered him straight into the phoenix’s flames.
Years later, stripped of rank and reduced to guarding a palace courtesan, he discovers that the courtesan is actually Lan Wangji, alive against all odds.
Wei Wuxian isn't sure what to do with a second chance, only that he doesn't want to waste it. Lan Wangji, meanwhile, can't stop flinching when he gets too close.

In one fluid motion, Lan Zhan removed his shirt and folded it before setting it on the side table designated for customer belongings. Wei Ying had seen Lan Zhan shirtless before, in many scenarios like at the beach or when he came out of the shower and walked to his room. Hell, he had seen so many chests of men, women, non-binary folk alike! This should be nothing new to him at all!
All of these experiences combined did not prepare him for the the sight of Lan Zhan's chest in front of him in the moment.
This time, Wei Ying was actually allowed to stare at them, just not in the creepy way!
He was struggling.
