- Carcassonne, Gustave NadaudInspired by Wifies calling Avery the "Keeper of the realm" when in his 12-hour trance, guiding the spirits in the afterlife to their rightful place in Carcosa.
In this alternate timeline, Avery is safe. He will not be the Vessel the King wants so much. And yet, being trapped in a daze, tending to the dead until the King's vessel is found and assimilated...Is that truly the best outcome for Avery? And what will the King do instead, if Derek and Avery aren't in the picture?
(While i am updating at roughly a chapter a day, there's no guarentee I'll keep that rate up. But enjoy nonetheless!)
ANOTHER UPDATE:Rating set to mature specifically because Avery's humor gets incredibly crass (suggestive/sexual, but he doesn't really mean it) on chapter 13. That's as far as I'm going in that direction, I do NOT INTEND to add smut. Minors, be careful with that one. You can skip to the section at the end, starting with the section breaker.

Inherent kindness did not exist. Not as far as Derek was concerned. As the crown prince of the Empire of Quelen, people were never kind to him unless they wanted something.
People were either sycophantic damn near to the point of insulting, or as rude as possible while leaving room for plausible deniability. They hated or loved him for the crown, he was not a living being as far as they were concerned.
That is what he believed until Avery waltzed right into his life and sat down and refused to leave, not that he wanted him to leave.
