“Has Fuyumi told you about the new volunteer?” Shouto shakes his head looking at his sister as he shoves another bite in his mouth.
“Oh my God, Shouto, this kid is just like Touya.” Fuyumi says, covering her mouth as she laughs. Shouto’s face contorts to something between amusement and concern.
“Is this really the best place for him to volunteer?” Shouto asks with a laugh and his mom waves him off.
“He really is a sweet kid. I think you'd like him.” Shouto smiles as he takes the last bite of his ice cream, and he and Fuyumi get ready to leave. He hugs his mom tight and hopes they'll see each other again soon.

Katsuki is sick and tired of the way he's perceived, so he decides to go on a journey to change it, and starts to volunteer at a hospital in the city, in hopes that he can bring out a gentler part of himself.
He ends up achieving more than personal growth.

Summary
Shouto remembers when he first noticed the pain. He remembers waking up some random day in third year in more pain than he’d felt since the war. Pain was something he was very familiar with, pain from cold, pain from heat, pain from training too hard, or pushing himself too hard while sparring, but this wasn’t the normal soreness he was used to.

Summary
Clubs and bars have never really been Shouto’s scene. He sighs as he does a once over in front of his mirror. His clothes are fine- jeans, a t-shirt with flannel on top. He unbuttons the cuffs and rolls the sleeves up to his elbows, before running his fingers through his hair. He checks the time and knows he needs to leave to meet his friends, but he really just wants to stay home. His fingers move unconsciously as he opens up his text history with Midoriya. He stares at the conversation, his finger itching to type a message.
Canceling their plans would be so easy, but he hasn’t seen him or a handful of their classmates in a while. His therapist would probably say he’s self-sabotaging right now. He closes his eyes, breathing out a frustrated groan, before pocketing his phone. He walks to his front door and makes his way toward the train station.

Summary
Shouto steps into his apartment, shoulders drooping down in exhaustion. It’d been a terrible day and he felt like a failure. People died today because he wasn’t fast enough, because he wasn’t good enough. He closes the door behind him and finds Katsuki sitting on their couch, like he’d been waiting for him. They lock eyes and the blond slowly gets up from his seat, crossing the room to Shouto. When Katsuki reaches him, his arms embrace him, and the taller man can’t help it any longer. He breaks in Katsuki's arms. Heaving sobs slip past his lips, as he lets himself go limp in his husband's hold.

Summary
Shouto doesn't know how he always ends up here, unconsciously pushing himself past his limits, but he can feel it happening. Somehow, he ended up in the middle of a battle alone. There's only one villain, but their quirk allows them to copy themselves and nothing is helping him figure out which is a clone and which is the real villain. They don't have enough information and at some point he'd managed to freeze his comms, so he can't even request back up.
He's surrounded by bodies and neither his fire nor his ice seems to affect them, despite their ability to interact with the world around him. As far as he can tell the only thing that affects them is brute force, and sure he's strong as hell, but he's alone and he just wasn't built for close combat.

His friends and other family try to help Todoroki navigate everything without compromising his carefully crafted public persona. But his less than stellar track record with relationships suddenly seems to be changing.
Meanwhile, Bakugou has been living as the playboy of the western world- the nation's top bad boy hero with sponsorships, an entourage, and more money than he could ever need. But life on top is boring when there's rarely a challenge he can't overcome. However his past is keeping him on a tight leash.
