The neighbor hummed before raising her glass. “To not feeling lonely.”
There was something in her tone. Despite sounding sarcastic, and through the self-deprecating facade, that sounded truly lonely. Maybe it wasn’t the tone entirely, maybe it was the light going out her eyes–despite the gleaming club lights reflected in them. Those dull, light blue eyes.
She found herself reaching for a drink, meeting her glass with a clink. There was something about the new neighbor, again, that compelled her to do it.
“To making new friends,” she said without any second thoughts.

Picking up on plot points from S1 with some canon divergence, Wednesday develops not only new abilities, but emotions and friendships as she examines her life through her new lens of Nevermore.

Genuinely my favorite fanfic of all time (in the sense that I read it in 21 days). The plot is perfectly fleshed out and pulls you into the story in the most beautiful way (I may have cried). Everything about it is just delightful and handles each heavy situation perfectly and with a more delicate and realistic manner. Absolutely loved. 1000/10 WILL read again (#comfortfic #sobbing #I’m actually so grateful for this)

Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”
