Summary
There is a way Shane has described it before: like he gets swallowed up by his own pleasure, everything outside his body falling away; like his head is full of smoke. Mostly, he has said, he only gets like this with Ilya. But he looks it now. His eyes are screwed shut, his mouth hanging open, not even trying to muffle the sounds that punch their way out of him—little moans, groans, gasps and harsh, husky pants as he grinds his hips down against a pillow.
Ilya’s text announcing his return had gone unread. This must be why.
—
Ilya comes home to his husband.

Summary
The sun is starting to set, and the lake water still clinging to them is cold, but there is warmth pooling between their bodies; blood running hot and close under their skin. Ilya sinks his fingers into Shane's soft hips, feeling it, and Shane shivers atop him. He stares into Ilya's eyes like he is stargazing, his own crinkled with his smile. Ilya loves him so much.
—
A soft moment at the cottage.

Edwin keeps goin’ translucent enough Charles can see the windowsill straight through his throat, before he shudders and takes a breath and—forces himself, it looks like, right back whole again.
“C’mon, mate,” Charles says. “Whatever that is can wait ‘til later, yeah?”

Summary
Jennifer had always been stubborn. Always had to have the last word. And god, hadn’t she managed that—sinking her teeth into Needy’s flesh and not killing her, not eating her, but shoving in the same evil that was charring her own soul from the inside out. Like she couldn’t die without making sure some part of her was stuck in Needy forever; shrapnel from the atomic explosion of their friendship.

It is incredibly uncouth of me; I know this, and there is a great measure of shame in me because of it.

Summary
There's another little part of Charles—a quiet, shivery, tucked-way-down-deep little part of him—that… that likes it, more than he ought to. A part of him that likes Edwin pressed against him and holding him still and clamping a hand over his mouth to keep him quiet.
All at once, he's thinking back to Hell—but not in the bad way he's been having those thoughts, lately. He's remembering how Edwin did this same thing down there: his hand over Charles's mouth, keepin' him hush.

Summary
Crystal’s never had anything she was this afraid of losing before. She’s never had anything—anyone—that’s tried so hard to stay. And she might have just fucked it all up for good.
Crystal blinks hard, swallowing down the knot that’s started to rise in her throat. She grabs her phone off the night stand, opens Niko’s contact, and spends a minute debating over what to say before eventually sending a single message:
Can we talk?
—
In Clue terms: Crystal palace, in the not-so-guest bedroom, with Niko Sasaki—trying to be better.

Summary
It is the final week before Christmas, and Edwin had intended to spend the days both he and Charles have blessedly off from work gearing up for the holiday: wrapping presents, putting up lights, and adding the final decorations to their Christmas tree, now that he has the time to give it proper attention. But instead, he is wasting his days away in bed thanks to a swift and thorough onset of the Common Cold—a name that, in Edwin’s humble opinion, fails utterly to communicate the true severity of the affliction.
At least there is Charles. He is, as always, the very warmest part of this dreaded winter.
—
OR: Edwin falls tragically ill over the winter holidays. Thankfully, Charles is there to take care of him—however he needs.

Summary
The voice comes again. “Hello? Edwin?”
Edwin recognizes it. Not from then, but from now. From University classes, movie nights, and sparkling smiles over picnic tables.
A rope is cast down into the dark, and he latches onto it with both hands.
Swallowing convulsively, he says, “Charles. Did I—did I call you?”

Summary
If Edwin could ever know cause for a second death, it would be this: Charles, looking utterly devastating in an honest-to-goodness red velvet suit, the top two buttons of his cream dress shirt tastefully undone and his gold chain settled under the open collar in place of a tie.

Summary
It is approximately eight-oh-seven P.M. when the first projectile makes contact with Edwin’s dorm room window.
He assumes it is a stray bit of twig, at first, or perhaps an acorn blown off of the nearby oak tree by the wind. That is, until the second assault sounds with a delicate ping. Then, he takes it to be a group of early partygoers playing a prank on the unsuspecting inhabitant of suite 2310, room 1A, and resolves to ignore them.
It is shortly after the third ping that a familiar voice joins in with a distant “Oi, Edwin!”, and Edwin’s resolve proves futile.
—
October 31st, Edwin's first year of university. He believes he will be spending the holiday alone, but his new friend Charles begs to differ.

Summary
Charles thinks he should maybe have a harder time believing Edwin, when he tells him.
Only, he looks the part, doesn’t he? Pale skin, pale eyes, dark hair; sharp, angular features. Properly regal, he is. Like something off the cover of those raunchy supernatural romance novels Charles sees in the storefronts when he’s out on the town with his mates.
Not for the first time, Charles sees those pale eyes dart down to his neck, and an odd little shiver goes down his spine.
—
Or: a different version of Charles and Edwin's first meeting, where Edwin is a vampire instead of a ghost. Some things go very differently, while others don't change much at all.

Summary
Getting her memories back is weird.
There's a lot of stuff that hits Crystal over the head from the start—and that's mostly the big, awful, world-altering stuff, like the fact that she made a guy walk into traffic at fifteen years old, or the fact that her closets are full of at least three years' worth of stolen designer bullshit. But there's other stuff, smaller stuff, that just kind of... slips back in the sides, unnoticed until something makes her notice it.

Summary
Every time they kiss, it gets harder and harder to stop.
The air’s heavy between them, and the light of the office is dim in a way that makes it all feel sort of hazy, really; sort of holy. The weight of Edwin in Charles’s lap, there on the sofa, is enough to make him a bit dizzy. Enough to have something humming, low and wanting, down in his belly—in his hands—in his thighs.

Summary
Crystal remembers the taste of fish. She remembers the feeling of skin tearing under her teeth, thick and slimy; remembers how the rotten smell filled her nose.
She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, trying to swallow it down—but then she just remembers sharp bones scratching her throat, and dead eyes staring up at her from above a gaping mouth.
—
David's possession leaves Crystal with more scars than she thought. Thankfully, she doesn't have to deal with them alone.

Summary
Edwin doesn't know what he expects Charles to do. He feels more exposed than he has ever been in the lacy undergarments, stockings, and sheer cover-up adorning him now. Moreso even than when he is completely naked. This ensemble is delicate; almost strategic in what it reveals. What it frames for Charles's sight.
Edwin feels exposed—but not embarrassed, or afraid. How can he be, with Charles's eyes so intent on his body? How can he feel anything but beautiful?
—
Edwin wears Lingerie for the first time.
