Pomni wasn’t really sure what to expect when she threw her hat in the ring for Operation: RETRIEVE CAINE. All she knew was that someone had to do it, and she sure as fuck didn’t think any of the others would do it.
The entire thing hinged on the hope that his file still existed somewhere in the bin since for some reason, Kinger couldn’t just find the file directly from their new computer. Some explanation about indexes and file corruption that went over her head- but because of this, someone needed to be deleted and dropped into the bin to interact with him and hopefully get a file reference to him, so that hopefully, when they’re brought back, he (or at least something Caine-adjacent) gets dragged back as well.
Hopefully.
God, this is beyond fucked.

In a last-ditch attempt to stop the circus from falling apart, Pomni gets sent into the bin to retrieve Caine, which, if everything went well, should restore functionality to the Circus. The spirits of those who die a violent death are liable to become trapped on earth. Ghosts, amorphous shades that linger around their own graves. Such beings are rarely perceived by the living. Maybe, as a cold spot, or a wind from nowhere- a whisper in the shell of one’s ear. That doesn't mean they aren’t there.
The underground laboratory built by Gustavo Fring is haunted. The ghosts, he placed there himself- one remains because of unfulfilled vengeance, and the other, because he doesn’t understand his own death. Both were killed by gunshot wounds. One was killed by the other.
What, in undeath, could two such phantoms have to talk about? A wolf and a sheepdog, forced to haunt the same pit. Both, it seems, are unable to find the peace required to leave.
At times, the laboratory is also visited by another spirit. This one, an amphiptere- a serpent with an angel's wings.

When Loid adopted Anya and they became the Forgers, he made sure that the families with the surnames Williams, Levski, Klein, and Roche that were most likely to adopt were either no longer in Berlint or at least lived in or worked on the other side of the city. For the ones that were too close for his liking, he made sure to keep Anya away from any neighborhoods or establishments that would increase the chance of a run-in. In a city of almost 1.3 million people, there was a very small chance that the Forgers would run into any of them by happenstance. It was such a small chance that Loid had discounted the possibility after doing the math.
Perhaps that chance hadn’t been small enough.
