Summary
The man scoffs and looks over them. “Give me your wallet too.” Buck sighs but he’s not fighting over anything or doing anything to anger these men, not when he has Chris here. He has to make sure Chris is okay and that he gets him out of here, that’s all that matters. He reaches into his pocket and he doesn’t have time to grab his wallet or even prepare for anything before he feels a blinding pain in his abdomen. He squeezes his eyes shut and feels his head hit the ground. He didn’t hear it, he can’t even see. He just smells smoke and feels pain everywhere. What happened? What was he doing? He was shopping…

Summary
Buck is a lot. Eddie knows Buck is a lot. Buck knows Buck is a lot.
But every single person who ever said that to Buck said it like a warning. Like a disclaimer, a heads-up, a you-should-know-what-you're-getting-into before getting too close so they can't say they weren't told.
And Eddie has never, not once, wanted Buck to be less.
The surplus, the overflow, the fourth tangent on a story that started somewhere else entirely — that's not the price of Buck. That is Buck. And more of Buck has only ever meant more to love, and Eddie spent enough years running on empty to know what it means when someone fills up every room they walk into so completely that Eddie is overflowing with it most days.
"Eddie. Are you listening?"
Eddie nods. "Gym Katie is alone at the gym and she's upset."
Buck blinks. His mouth is still open from the sentence he was about to say, his hands still mid-gesture, and he looks genuinely thrown, like he expected to catch Eddie zoning out and instead got caught himself. Caught being heard.
"You were listening," Buck says, a little breathlessly.
Eddie smiles. "I'm always listening."

Summary
Buck had seen Eddie off and immediately run to the firehouse with his tail between his legs, in search of a patented Henrietta Wilson Healing Hug. What he found instead was an old - ancient, really - cassette player with a sign that read simply, “play me”. Later, Chimney would half tease, half chide him for not confirming that it was meant for him before doing as the sign said and Buck would laugh and agree that it was fairly presumptuous of him to do so, but really…there was no question as to who it was for.
Buck could recognize Eddie’s handwriting with his eyes closed.
Without so much as putting his bag down, Buck pressed play.

Summary
“God, Dad. No.” He huffed in displeasure. “I'm not— It's Buck, Dad.”
Eddie barely ever heard that name anymore, except for an echo in his own head, and he went still, looking down at his phone and then replacing it by his ear.
“What— what about him?” Eddie asked, hoping he sounded less thrown off guard than he felt. Hoping he sounded less breathless through the phone than he did to his own ears.
“I got, um, an invite. To his wedding.”

Summary
After an emergency that hits way too close to home, Buck proposes a spontaneous trip to El Paso to look at houses—and maybe visit Christopher while they’re there. Eddie, initially skeptical, thinks that might be the worst idea he’s ever heard. Three days, just a quick trip. What could possibly go wrong?
