    Vanitas can’t sleep so he does the only other thing he’s good at besides curing vampires from the curse: harass Noé. It escalates royally and doesn’t end good. No one is surprised.

    “My, do I look like a ten year old boy, barely able to fend for myself that I need to share my bed with someone?” Vanitas cocks his head to the side, squinting at Noé from under his black lashes. “And who would want to lie next to a rough sleeper like you, ending up as a body pillow for your serving!”

    Noé arches a slim, white eyebrow and lifts his blanket. Vanitas stares at him for a moment, then moves towards him like a moth to the flame and crawls under the sheets, settling right next to the other boy. “What a splendid idea!” no one says, because it isn’t.

    The silver earring that first caught his eye lies limp along the corner of Vanitas’s jaw and neck, its shine urging Noé’s eyes to trail down the human’s exposed skin. He fixes his stare on the soft flesh where the brunette's jaw meets his neck, and the gem lying there sparkles. The vampire can’t decide if that’s a taunt or an invitation.

    See, even when they first met, he thought Vanitas' hair looked especially silken. The contrast between his manic smile and the surprisingly kempt nature of his hair was fascinating at first glance. Bursting through an airship mid-flight didn't seriously muss it and neither did falling out of one. Instead, as they fell, it fanned around him and narrowed his gaze.

    Like that, Noé felt uniquely observed when Vanitas looked at him. Like he was the sole focus of that cloak-and-dagger attention.

    Even back then, the urge to run his fingers through it was present.

    OR: A very self indulgent fluff fic about Noé really liking Vanitas' hair.
