Max is amazing. She’s kind, and talented, and smart, and pretty, and she sees beauty in everything. She should date someone who can match that. Someone who would like, take her to dates that aren’t always the movie theater or some random restaurant. Someone who would stay up all night watching her comfort movies with her when she’s upset. Someone who would slow-dance with her in empty parking lots at three in the morning. Someone who would send her stupid sappy videos every waking moment and say ‘us?’. Someone who would make her happy.
Instead, she gets a boring, sometimes weird and objectifying boyfriend who watches gore for fun and who’s just slightly better than the average guy, who makes her content.

She sighed and reached a hand below her bed to grab a joint. She tucked it between her lips and lit it up with her lighter before tossing it next to the bed and exhaling smoke. She wanted to reach a hand and dip it in her cat soft fur like she always does on a wake-and-bake morning but instead of fur she felt skin… Human skin.

Max is dragged to a rock concert by Safi and Amanda, and she can't be too mad when the members of the band are pretty hot (and gay). Especially the blue haired guitarist, who Max can't help but obsessively stare at. When they cross paths at a bar after the concert, Safi gives her a friendly shove to go over and talk to her. And she does. She's hot and cool, and her name is Chloe, but that's totally just a coincidence. The last time Max saw her childhood best friend, they'd barely been teenagers.
Chloe can't believe Max actually doesn't recognize her. It's been over fifteen years, sure, but she recognized Max on sight. She wants to be hurt about it, but the flirting and promise of a fun one night stand make her hesitate. So she decides to go along with it, pretend she doesn't know exactly who Max Caulfield is.
Until things get real back at the hotel, and she has no choice but to confess.

Not because it’s a photo -- it isn’t even of her, isn’t more than a few hours in the past -- but because you’re more convinced than terrified that she’s just going to up and vanish. If it’s not time-bullshit, then it’ll be her having enough of putting up with your bullshit; she’s got her family out there, over in Seattle, and you’ve got a beat up truck and a few thousand dollars to your name.
