Summary
Refusing to let Ilya ruin his career by signing with Ottawa, Shane chooses to really give their relationship a try and moves to Boston to live with Ilya and become a Raider. What follows is enough public scrutiny and backlash from his team that it has him questioning if he made the right decision. Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly.

Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard.
“Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff.
“Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him.
“You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.”
Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that.
The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.

Before practice, Shane is caught off guard by the devastating news of an abrupt plane crash that took the lives of five Raiders players, including Ilya's. Shane was pretty sure he kept talking, but if he was being honest, he didn’t hear anything past that. He just stared at his teammate’s lips moving, no sound seeming to reach his ears aside from the heavy thudding of his own heartbeat in them. There was this urge to snatch the phone out of his hand and read the news article for himself growing as the locker room managed to warp around him. But he couldn’t move, fear paralyzing him.
“You alright?” Hayden questioned, his voice tearing through the sharp silence his mind had forced upon him.
Shane flinched as he felt his friends hand on his shoulder, the sudden contact making him even more ill to his stomach. He didn’t dare try to nod or lie and say he was.

"See? Shane's probably just in the kitchen,” Yuna murmured softly, putting her purse down on the side table beside the door. “Maybe he’s—”“Okay, you were maybe telling me the truth,” a voice suddenly called, cutting her off before she could finish her sentence. “At least partially.”
Yuna frowned, the deep, accented voice catching her off guard. Before she could piece together where she recognized the voice from, though, she saw Ilya Rozanov walking through her son’s apartment. He was barefoot, his hair slightly damp and his clothes casual. Sweatpants and a white T-shirt that clung to him after a shower.
From the kitchen, David heard his sons’ voice ring out, too. “What do you mean partially?” Shane responded, gesturing at his phone as Ilya showed him something on it. “That’s exactly what I told you.”

“It’s his name!” Hayden retorted, defensively. “We should get used to using it considering he and Shane are…you know.”
Sleeping together sounded crass, but dating seemed too romantic, too. Not that there hadn’t been some pretty romantic texts to sort through. He couldn’t really figure out what the word that felt best was, or if there even was one.

“What about your wife?” Ilya wondered, his question soft to make sure he didn’t upset him again. “Can she not watch kids while you visit your parents?”Hayden, for a moment, furrowed his brows. He never heard that gentle of a tone from Rozanov before. Ever. He thought about snapping again, but frankly, felt a bit too tired for it. Instead, he just shook his head.
“She’s not even in the country,” he admitted. “And I can’t bother her after ruining her vacation last year.”
Ilya’s lips twitched, something akin to respect showing for a moment. “Alright, fine,” he muttered, sighing. “I take them.”
He blinked, scoffing. “What?” he responded in confusion.
“The kids, I take your kids,” Ilya clarified, gesturing between them. “How long will you be gone, a week? Two?” He leaned over, sorting through the other cart without permission to look at the snacks in comparison to what he already had at his house.

For the last two minutes Damian had finally moved from the doorway and started to approach where Dick was sitting, stopping then starting again. Then Damian finally stood on the opposite side of the table Dick sat at, turned on his heel walked away few feet only to turn back to return. He did this a few times actually, once or twice when he stood in front of Dick his mouth opened then clamped it shut before walking away again. Only to repeat the whole thing over again.
“…No.” Damian said, turning on his heel again to leave or start this weird hesitant dance all over again.
“Oh my god, Damian, what do you want?” Dick asked, dropping his spoon loudly in his bowl, tired of watching whatever this was supposed to be. “You’re starting to make me dizzy, spit it out.”
