The way Chu Wanning flounders, mouth opening and closing a few times, is adorable. Eventually, he scowls and turns his head away, a blush sitting high on his sharp cheekbones. “Do whatever.”
Mo Ran tuts. “‘Do whatever,’ he says. Is that any way to speak to someone you’re about to kiss? A-Ning, you should learn to act sweet if you want to find a cultivation partner.”
“Who wants a cultivation partner?” Chu Wanning snaps.
That won’t do. Mo Ran grasps his chin between his thumb and forefinger and forces Chu Wanning to look at him, lowering his voice to something more commanding. “Wanning. Your shizun is trying to teach you something important. Pay attention.”
Chu Wanning’s lips part, gaze briefly losing focus. When he responds, his voice is deliciously raspy. “Yes, Shizun.”
After five years apart, Mo Ran is forced to face the untouchable beauty that his disciple has grown into, as well as the feelings that this development stirs within him.
