Summary
Pretty much everyone was on their feet and shouting over each other. Kitty yelped and put her hands over her ears. Cam looked close to tears. Shan reached for her spellbook and started preparing to douse them all in water, which Graecie had to stop with a gentle hand on her shoulder. 4C seemed to be mediating between Cam and Owain, who had taken Graecie’s permission to voice his opinion to heart, and was peppering in his impassioned speech with curse words in various languages he’d picked up on his travels, only some of which Graecie recognised.
The only thing that seemed to stop them was the sound of Nom violently throwing up into a wastepaper basket.
Graecie is leading a new committee of Red and Blue kingdom members in finding a way to bring peace amongst the kingdoms without having to wipe each other out, meanwhile, Nom is still recovering from the Creaking King, and the treatment is making him too weak to fight, but he still wants to do everything he can to end the fighting once and for all, so he’s very vocal about this plan. He doesn’t want to let Sausage’s death and his almost-death be in vain.

Summary
It’s so easy to kill someone with their helmet down, Nom has realised.
But when you’re born of the same soil, suddenly you see their face everywhere in the place you once called home.
Seeing the cliffs of the kingdom made Nom’s skin crawl beneath his armour.
He steered the sail towards the beach, wanting anything but to see his homeland again, and yet being unable to look away.
Part of him had hoped that war had torn it apart while he was gone, that he would come back to a ruin, a place he could fit in, that would match how he felt inside now.
But it remained unchanged.
It was only Nom who was different.

The Creaking Heart needs to be destroyed. Scott has put it off long enough, but now is the time to put to the test to see whether Nom’s treatment has worked.
“But he’ll die.”
“We don’t know that for certain. The Creaking King has often lied to us. And you’ve done a lot of work in helping Nom recover. We’re in the best position we’ve ever been to destroy it. I won’t ask you to make the call on whether or not he’s separated enough for this to work. I know that decision would be incredibly hard to make. But please understand that I made it knowing that I trust your skills. You’ve done all you can for him.”
“But-“
“He can’t get better until that thing is gone.”
“He can’t get better if he’s dead, Graecie!”

Summary
It was through Scott’s guidance, he’d been able to imagine a world where he could be tender. Briefly, ever so briefly, there’d been a possible world where Nom’s muscles didn’t need to ache from anything more than tending a garden, or practicing his guitar, or taking the long trek across the kingdom to visit a friend for a cup of tea.
But what chance at softness Nom’d had- skin uncovered by armour, blood that could so easily flow, a heartbeat that slowed when calm and raced when excited, all these human things- had been given up for the sake of more strength, more violence, more hard-shelled protection.
Scott finds Nom in the RueBar at 3am “preparing” for the upcoming battle. Nom explains that he feels like something is going to end tomorrow, and so takes the moment to enjoy Scott’s quiet company for the night while he can, because the way things are turning out, even if Nom survives, he might never be the same. The hardness of the bark on his skin might one day lose the ability to register Scott’s soft comfort.

Summary
After her unpaid full-time job of Vampire Slayer lead to a few too many wrecked cars and a burnt-down school gym, Piper McLean finds herself getting shipped off to her mum’s home in Sunnydale, California.
Between the Council threatening a tighter leash, sharing the house with a nosy half-sister and a town that quickly reveals itself to be even more monster-infested than LA, things don’t seem exactly promising.
But it turns out Sunnydale has more to offer than the regular occupational hazards of vampires roaming the graveyard at night and the occasional dead guy shoved into a locker. Between the utter absurdity of her newly assigned Watcher and two amateur vampire hunters who are vastly more effective at nearly getting themselves killed on the job than they are at hunting vampires, Piper finds her usual solo act suddenly turning into a group project.
Worse: despite her previous Watcher’s warnings, she isn’t sure she minds all that much.
