Summary
Spencer grips the steering wheel a little tighter than necessary as she pulls out of the narrow parking lot in front of the halfway house.
The morning light is brighter now. The pale softness of dawn has burned off, replaced with the sharper gold of late morning sun reflecting off windshields and apartment windows. The road ahead of her stretches open and unfamiliar in a way that makes something in her chest feel both lighter and slightly untethered.
Her new apartment waits somewhere across town.
Not state housing.
Not temporary.
Just… hers.
The thought sits strangely in her mind. Freedom still feels theoretical. Like a concept she understands intellectually but has not fully absorbed.

Rumi closes her eyes. Slowly, almost practised, like she’d rehearsed this many, many times before, she calls her sword and lifts it. Not to wield, but to offer. Like a knight asking for a king’s blessing. Take this, bless this so that I might defeat the monster, so that I might purify this land.
“Kill me and fix what was never meant to be.”
Zoey stares. Mira breathes, and the gok-do on the floor blinks once, twice, before bursting into sparks and disappearing entirely.
“What the fUCK, Rumi?!”

She wants them.
She wants Mira and Zoey so badly, in whatever way, shape, or form that comes in.
For once in her life, Rumi wants to be selfish.
Or: HUNTR/X works towards sealing the Honmoon and falls in love along the way. Pre-reveal Rumi, hiding both her patterns and her wants, loves her girls in whatever way she can until she's free (whether that means shielding Mira and Zoey in fights or pretending to be something she's not). She just has to hold out until the Honmoon’s golden. Straightforward enough, right?

Summary
Rumi hadn’t meant to cause such a scene. She just wasn’t thinking straight.
Celine had told her Zoey and Mira would kill her if they found out what she was, and Rumi had come to the conclusion that she was probably right.
Her plan, as tenuous a description as that word was, was to cut the patterns out. If she could cut out the parts of her that made her dangerous, that made her less than human, that made her so unloveable, maybe she’d stop feeling so fucking guilty every time Mira or Zoey opened up to her.
They loved each other from the start, but it just wasn't that simple.

Summary
She pushes her glasses back up her nose, eyes never moving from the spot on Rumi’s shoulder. Hm. They are, in fact, still there.
“Zoey,” Mira calls, keeping her voice low, not wanting to alert Rumi, because, quite frankly, she needs to talk to anyone else who isn't the source of the problem right now.
Zoey, thankfully, picks up on the tone in her voice, easily making her way over from across the compound, giving Mira a look. Mira just gestures for Zoey to get closer to her, and once Zoey is shoulder-to-shoulder with her, Mira gestures over toward Rumi.
There’s a pause.
“Huh,” Zoey decides, frowning. “That’s...” she trails off, waving a hand as she tilts her head to the side. “Different.”
“Something like that,” Mira agrees, crossing her arms over her chest. “Rumi has patterns.”
Zoey makes a noise. “Yeah. I guess so, huh?”
(or, mira and zoey discover rumi's patterns early and make it their life goal to...help)
