Megumi tells himself he doesn’t really need Toji, at least not to take care of him; he can take care of himself thanks to his upbringing, or rather lack thereof. He’s grown up on his own for the most part, forced to mature before the rest of his peers. He’s not a little kid anymore.
Which is why he frowns when Toji comes home toting a large stuffed animal under his arm, roughly shoving it at Megumi. “Someone gave this to me to give to you,” he grunts. “Take it.”
Megumi looks at the plushie in his arms, then back at Toji. “I’m too old for plushies,” he tells him very matter-of-factly.
