The two cocky Alphas deliberated for a moment, both clearly taken aback by Kojiro's outburst. One actually had the audacity to ready himself, as though he truly dared physically meet Kojiro's challenge, his ridiculously small body shifting in weight as he puffed out his chest, nostrils flaring.
But it was Kaoru, and not Kojiro, who met the Alpha square on, bodily pushing himself past Kojiro with a shove that sent his friend sideways. And while Kojiro hadn't yet made eye contact, Kaoru's eyes burned into their aggressor's like a brand on flesh and he did not, for one instance, look away.

Back along I read that Ainosuke had always, always known he'd never amount to more than the third wheel to Matchablossom, as much as they themselves didn't realise it at the time (because they're idiots.) Just a little drabble of a brief adult Kojiro Ainosuke interaction, about what it is to love Kaoru, what it is to be in love with him, and what it means to have his love returned.

Somehow, his words don't feel like a roleplay game anymore.-

Summary
Time moved quickly in the Shindo estate after the lady of the house had passed. The funeral was very formal and very heartless and passed in a blur of well wishes, condolences and comfortless hugs. Ainosuke saw his father very briefly at the wake, who was preoccupied with thanking guests and networking. He didn’t recognise many faces in the crowd, seeking the comfort of his mother’s friends and finding none. He did find himself in the company of the head gardener of the estate though, who offered him a real cuddle, squeezing him tightly, the first true embrace he’d felt since before his mother died.
“I’d like you to meet my son,” the gardener had told Ainosuke. He gently pushed a young boy forwards. He looked a little older, Ainosuke guessed, but not by much. “He asked to come help around the estate after school and I thought you two might get along.”

A kinda-sorta retelling of the story from the point of view of a young boy and his friend, and skateboards, and roses, and love, and loss, and *fun*.
