Summary
Growing up in the wake of a war is not easy. It makes you wear anger as armor and use propriety as a shield.
Lan Sizhui has learnt how to be perfect. Perfect obedience, perfect performance, perfect understanding of truth. But soon his perfection has to reckon with Jin Ling's anger. An anger that tells an entirely different story. At least he has Lan Jingyi to support him when his world tips on its axis.
Yet Jingyi does not belong here. Desperately trying to fit into a mold that he cannot conform to, he encounters Ouyang Zizhen who refuses to fit into any box presented to him. If they cannot find belonging in the world that made them, at least they could find comfort in each other, right?

Summary

The figures have their backs to the door, but Wangji can make them out regardless. Even seated, Wei Wuxian’s hands move continuously.

Ah. Wangji feels a tide of heat to his face and a sort of wavelike rush in his ears, as if he were standing very near a waterfall. This is the precise reason Rule 569: Eavesdropping Is Prohibited exists. Wangji will have to punish himself for the infraction.
It is good, Wangji muses, that he doesn’t care about this Wei Wuxian’s approval.
(Or; Lan Wangji is a single man in possession of a good fortune. He is not in want of a spouse.)
