Summary

Next thing they know, Robotnik manages to ruin their campout while working on a plan to conquer the entire world. A regular Saturday morning, really.
One ski accident and a cup of hot cocoa later, the situation turns south for the supersonic hedgehog, and his best friend finds himself at a standstill. What is a hero to do?

The plot of Sonic Prime never happened. There is no paradox prism and Nine never met Sonic. He spent another 10+ years holed up in his lab, isolated and alone into adulthood. That is until he was whisked away on an interplanetary adventure where he finally had his “Sonic” moment, but instead with Tails and Mangey. They had to part ways in the end- each going back to their respective worlds- but Mangey accidentally gets sucked into the New Yoke portal with Nine! Having grown up in the jungle with his close-knit family of scavengers, the city is no place for someone like Mangey. Will Nine be able to find a way to send him back home? And after a life of friendless isolation… Will Nine be able to let him go?

Do you like Sonic and Nine fluff/angst? This is a bit like that, but with Mangey and Nine instead.

It was supposed to be the usual day for Shadow the Hedgehog. Visit the shooting range, practice for a few hours and go back to the flat he shared with Rouge and Omega. That's how it was, that's how it usually went.
Not this time.
He never accounted for meeting a certain two-tailed fox in a place definitely not designed for children. He never accounted for somehow ending up teaching the fox how to shoot properly.
He didn't want to get involved. He couldn't get involved. Not with how much the fox reminded him of Maria. Not with what he knew.

It was the only explanation that Tails could find that made any sense, but when nobody believes him, he has to try to fix it all by himself. Nobody else can see the patterns he can, so it's up to him to go up against Eggman to fix everything, because doing nothing is not an option.
(Or: My best explanation for why nobody ever talks about Mighty and Ray any more.)

Summary
Tails, Nine, and Mangey have been thrown into a mysterious deathmatch-like gameshow against their will. After being pushed to their limits physically and mentally, the trio finally accumulates enough points to earn their freedom. But this proves to be yet another ruse and their captivity merely takes a new form, more oppressive and invasive than ever. After having the rug continuously pulled out from under them, hope is at an all-time low.
The sudden appearance of Metal Sonic only adds further confusion. Is the robot simply another facilitator of their imprisonment, or could he be an unlikely ally? Who can they trust? Is escape even possible? Or will they give in to despair and accept their fate as a cog in the machine of an uncaring society, doomed to eternal exploitation?

Tails, Nine, and Mangey have been abducted from their various settings and forced to participate in a mysterious gameshow. The premise? Fight or be killed. Compassion and mercy are not allowed. Only by defeating enough opponents will you be allowed the ultimate prize: Your freedom.
The three have a unique opportunity to be permitted as a team for the gruesome game... If every member is on board with the idea, that is.
This is the second part of a three arc story. It is not necessary to read the first arc in order to understand/enjoy this one (the tone and premise are very different, though they are in the same continuity). The arcs are written in such a way that you can read each standalone and/or in any order, but reading all three will provide additional context.
