Summary
Erwin is a cadet, enrolled at Trost Military Academy, one of three elite academies in Eldia. The Cold War against Marley is in full swing, but the peace brought about by the armistice is fraying and war is on the horizon. A select group of cadets are chosen to participate in televised war games that garner the participants prestige, while showcasing to the world Eldia’s military might. Erwin’s team is expected to win The Cup before graduation, which is very important if Erwin is to secure a future with his father’s unfortunate legacy hanging over his head.
Levi Ackerman just wanted to deliver some contraband that his uncle was too drunk to handle. Living in Hizuru after being driven from their country by the Fritz Dynasty, the Ackerman clan is just trying to survive at the fringe of society. Levi certainly didn’t expect to be captured and sent to a military academy by the Eldian government, in an attempt to reclaim their legendary Ackerman soldiers.
Erwin and Levi are both walking the edge of what the Eldian government can tolerate. Can they possibly survive their time at the Academy, graduate, and find a way through the impending conflict against Marley and a strange new breed of super soldiers?

Summary
When Erwin Smith and the Scouts plucked Levi and his family from the Underground, they assumed he was just another desperate, struggling thug who happened to have a gift for using the ODM Gear. Those assumptions couldn’t be further from the truth. Start in Chapter 1 and follow Levi from the beginning of his journey as an abandoned 11-year-old street rat to someone with the power to reshape the very structure of the Underground City.
Or the reader can decide to begin the journey in Chapter 20 with Erwin, and no knowledge of Levi’s journey. Struggle along with the Scouts to decide whether Erwin’s new recruit is just a monster born from the darkness or someone with the ability and drive to help free humanity from the Walls. He inhales deeply, eyes close. Deep breaths, in and out.

Erwin’s fingertips still, hovering over Levi’s shoulder, hesitating. Erwin’s face remains reserved and measured as if contemplating one of his schemes, moving a piece on a chessboard. Levi can swear that he can feel the heat of Erwin’s palm, or rather, he can feel the gap between them. The tension, the hesitation – the lack of Erwin’s fingers on his skin burns the air between them. They remain like that, suspended, painfully aware of the sharpness of the lines separating their bodies. So close, yet so distant."
