Summary
After spending the better part of a thousand years as a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Merlin had given up hope that he would ever see Arthur again. Then Christmas 1993 happened and Sybil Trelawney wheezed out a prophecy about the return of the Once and Future King.
As ecstatic as Merlin is about the news, he wishes it wasn't because they were slowly approaching the end of all times, with magic itself beginning to fade from the land. Merlin also wishes Sybil had warned him how much more of a brat Arthur would be as a modern teenager, especially because this incarnation of him - terrifyingly - seems to have magic, too.
Somewhere in the Forbidden Forest, Merlin can hear Kilgharrah laughing at him.
Featuring nosy portraits with too much time on their hands, reincarnated knights with a penchant for Quidditch and such a supreme amount of Pendragon prattishness that it is practically a character on its own.

Summary
When Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic, he does the only thing he can think of. He banishes him. Circumstances force Merlin to live as a woman to avoid recognition, and he wanders through the Kingdom of Camelot, looking for a new purpose in life.
He finds it in 4 small children. Thrown away by their parents for gifts they had no choice in recieving. Merlin realizes his true calling is to spread the knowledge that magic means no harm.
Some time later, his path crosses with Arthur again. But with the memory of betrayal so fresh in their minds, can they over come the prejudices built over years of distrust and hatred?

For as long as Merlin can remember, there has been another voice in his head. Not that kind of voice that makes him crazy - he's not - but as if there is another person sharing his body. It might seems odd, but Merlin is use to it, so it's fine. He likes his voice anyways. After all, what kid wouldn't like having a best friend living in their head? It's only as time moves on that they learn that things aren't always as simple as they seem.

This one took me on an emotional rollercoaster, alternating laughing at the lovely Drarry antics and crying my eyes out (which is impressive b/c I normally don't actually shed tears while reading...). Wonderful story and I highly recommend!

A Modern day Merlin AU set at the University of St Andrews, featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love...
This story was inspired by the thought of Prince William of Wales (and indeed the current Max von Hapsburg) studying at the University of St Andrews; it is also, as the title suggests, at least a little inspired by the operetta 'The Student Prince'.

::2019 note: This story was written BEFORE the TV show introduced the character of Gwaine.
