Summary
It has been three years since they were outted and Henry and Alex have finally settled into a groove that works well for them, except for the fact that it feels like they're always having to steal time together. Queen Mary constantly coming up with excuses to get Henry out of public events with Alex isn't helping, and Alex is done with it. After a long conference in Tokyo that Henry couldn't attend, Alex's flight home being delayed is the last straw and he calls Henry to say they need to figure out a better way to do this, to which Henry agrees. But fate has other ideas. Alex's flight goes missing somewhere over the Pacific, no trace of it to be found, leaving Henry and Alex's family struggling to not lose hope while unable to do anything.

Alex has always been a very affectionate person. Ever since he was a kid, he can remember holding his parents’ hands at every opportunity, hugging his friends because it made him feel safe, sitting close just to feel the other person’s body against his, grounding.
In college, it’s… it’s different. He’s alone. He hadn’t realized how much he craved those simple moments of human contact until he didn’t have them anymore.
And then… there’s Henry.

The house is quiet. The early morning is still and mostly silent out here, punctuated only by the odd siren and occasional horn still celebrating Ellen’s victory.
‘Fuck, it’s so weird being back here,’ Alex murmurs, moving through the room. His feet shuffle across dusty hardwood floors and his fingertips skate over the furniture – all still there, exactly how they left it. Alex doesn’t know why they left it like this, like they would be coming back to it soon; why they'd treated moving to DC just like they had when June had left for college and nobody had touched anything in her room because it was still hers. Maybe, deep-down, they’d all been worried they’d be back here in four years. June is twenty-five now, but her room is still upstairs just as she left it on her first day for her senior year at UT; Alex is twenty-two and his is just like he left it when he was eighteen, wide-eyed, with a head full of dreams and a heart full of fire.
