Summary
Based on 'Single Father', Rose Tyler's best friend Rita dies in an accident. She knows Rita's partner Dave Tiler and finds herself falling in love with him when she goes to find out where he is on the day of the funeral. Her boyfriend Mickey suspects nothing even when she spends more time with the family but it ends in a bitter row when Rose discovers she is pregnant by Dave. Things get interesting when Dave acquires a nanny for the children and she thinks he is a man from the stars that her great grandmother knew when she first sees him.

"Did you know," he said, chewing, "that this –" he gestured at the magnificent chaos, “—started in America?"
"Did it?" she asked.
"New York. 1762. Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through the streets. Homesick, mostly. A bit drunk, probably." He took another bite of banana. "Ireland didn't really do any of this until much later. Pubs were legally closed on St. Patrick's Day here until 1970."
Rose stared at him. "You're joking."
"Religious observance. Feast day. Very solemn." He looked around at approximately forty thousand people celebrating in the street. "Things change."
