  Summary

  On a balmy June night in 1916, VAD Nurse Mary Bennet meets a wounded Private Thomas Hayward in a base hospital in northern France. Poetry and stolen moments feed their blossoming friendship while war rages on around them. But when Private Hayward’s condition sends him back overseas, and Tom and Mary find themselves reunited at Netherfield Park convalescent home, will their relationship bear the strain of Nurse Bennet’s family?
