He knew he was making a huge mistake the moment Mavrik’s gaze hardened. The elf was trying to put up a barrier between them to mask how much his words hurt, but they had grown too close. Lucanis could see how his jaw clenched and his breath stuttered with his attempts of holding tears that were threatening the corners of his eyes. This was a mistake, but now he couldn’t take the words back. They needed to end this and focus on the mission free of distractions.

He turned away from the mage for a split second as they became surrounded by darkspawn when his heart dropped into his stomach. He didn’t have to hear Mavrik cry out to know what had happened. He could sense the moment the Blight entered the shorter man’s bloodstream. He screamed out his rage and whirled around to make whatever creature had touched him pay for it and put himself firmly between Mavrik and everyone else.

Summary
The last thing Lucanis remembered was laying pressed close to his elven lover after a night of passion. The redhead had been stroking his hair lovingly and he couldn’t help himself but to fall asleep, trusting that at this point Spite wouldn’t bring harm to the man they both held strong affection towards. Mavrik’s warmth brought him enough comfort to not resist the pull to rest.
So to wake up mere hours later to find his hands wrapped tight around the man’s throat was a massive shock to say the least.
