Something was standing above his towel.
No… someone.
They seemed to be observing the towel, claws tapping against the material with what he took as curiosity, pinching it between the appendage.
Was it Rocky? It’d make sense, the Eridian would certainly have something harsh to say about him leaving his stuff laying around. He always had some mean quip to insult his shoddy human memory.
He opened his mouth to defend himself before Rocky could say something snappy, when the figure then moved, stocky legs rising from beneath their carapace and lifting them to their full standing height.
They were tall. Too tall.
That wasn’t Rocky.
OR
Grace receives an unexpected visitor one night in his home on Erid.

The awareness of time is a delicate thing.
It is slipping rapidly from Grace's fingers. Grace, who is starving to death, who is still recovering from the most precise amnesia Earth could give him, who turned around and left Earth in the hands of the Beetles save his one dearest companion even though it would kill him, is still a scientist at heart. Scientists solve problems. He finds ways to keep track.
Rocky wouldn't approve, but what Rocky doesn't know won't hurt him.

“Grace have stripes, question?”
I pause my movement to look over at my shipmate. My shirt is scrunched up by my shoulders, unmoving since I froze mid pulling it up over my head. I relax my arms, but don’t drop them, to consider what he could possibly be talking about.
“What?” I called out toward him.
“Grace has stripes on skin, statement. Rocky did not know.” He pauses and makes a chiming sound, “Not important. Observation.”
I look down at my expanse of skin. Stripes? Where would there be– Air leaves my body as my eyes land on the thin, barely there lines across the soft underpart of my left arm.
“Ah. My arm?”
Wait, no. That doesn’t make sense. He’s been around me this whole time, and I almost never wear long sleeves. I wear a jacket sometimes, sure, but plenty of t-shirts. T-shirts, like, all the time, actually. I decide that he’s not talking about the marks on my arm. He hadn’t said anything about them until now. He had to have noticed them before, so he means something else. Stripes. Stripes? Stripes!
Ouegh. Stripes.
“My stretchmarks.” I correct him.
---Rocky sees Grace's stretchmarks, and it prompts a conversation about them and his self-harm scars.

Grace's journey to Erid is long and taxing. 4 whole years spent on the Hail Mary by Rocky's side has inevitably brought them closer together, despite the last year mostly consisting of Grace trying his very best not to die and keep himself from throwing up taumoeba into the bathroom. It’s only after his body has stopped fighting desperately for his life that his mind has the time to catch up on everything that has happened with Rocky…and on Earth without him. It doesn’t help that he’s going to be the only human on a planet of Eridians and that his best friend’s mate doesn’t seem to like him much at all.
Or
Ryland Grace tries his best to begin to live again rather than just be alive, balancing his severe attachment to Rocky and helping to fix Rocky’s marriage to a frustrated Adrian.

“Oh,” I say. “That’s unusual, right?”
"Very," Rocky hums.
My throat tightens. "Does that mean there's something wrong? Are you sick?"
Rocky makes a gesture I usually interpret as "not exactly". "Not sick," he says. "But doctors still worry. When Eridian start to make fewer eggs, this usually means laying period of life is over soon. Rocky very young for this. Rocky supposed to be in ideal time of life for laying. Rocky younger than Adrian, even." He shifts on three of his feet. Already, my mind is racing ahead, wondering -- "Doctors told Rocky to ask Grace, is this radiation side effect, question?"
