it was just a trick of the light. it had to be. you always knew there might be something under the dark brim of his hat, some sort of eyes that always watched the world go by. but as his Player, you thought you were the only eyes he saw out of.
when you caught his gaze once, (accidental, but he was looking at you...for how long?) you saw them for the first time.
they were filled with hunger.

There’s a cross over their mouth.
One that forms to restrict their ability to speak.
Still, his silent puppeteer handles him with care, for they still have their strings which binds them together.
To a certain extent, only the Batter had access to their voice, for issuing commands and giving orders that can only vaguely ring in his head during the purification process.
It’s better this way.

The Batter doesn’t talk much. The Player is cursed to not talk at all. They try their best to work around it and journey to rid the world of impure spirits regardless.
