    “Want to go to the game with me?” Clark blurted, his voice echoing too loudly in the large room. He winced at the sound of his own voice, and the nerves that had caused him to say the wrong thing.

    Batman’s hands froze on the keyboard, the light sound of typing coming to a halt. Slowly, the Dark Knight turned in his chair until the lenses of his cowl were looking Clark’s direction.

    “The game?” he asked, his voice low and clearly unamused. Clark swallowed his anxiety as he silently cursed himself.

    “Gotham’s playing Metropolis tomorrow night,” Clark said, taking a few steps closer to the other hero and offering a small, hopeful smile. “I thought we could go together.”

    “You know I don’t do media appearances. Take Wonder Woman instead.” Batman’s tone was final, and he was already beginning to turn back to the monitors. Clark panicked, and in half a second he was across the room, one hand on the back of Batman’s chair, preventing him from looking away.

    “Wait!” Clark said hastily, noticing a small, annoyed frown pulling at the corner of Batman’s lip. “It’s not for the media! I meant we could go without capes. On a… a date.”

    Clark Kent is an investigative journalist. He knows how to unravel a mystery. So yes, he figures out Batman's identity within the first time he meets each side of it.
    Bruce Wayne, on the other hand, detective though he is, sometimes isn't the most perceptive.

    Or: the one where Clark knows Bruce's identity but Bruce doesn't know Clark's. Shenanigans ensue.
