Summary
In a world where the Avatar was killed during the airbender genocide, the cycle has been repeating for one hundred years. Each time, the Avatar is hunted and murdered by the tyrannical Fire Lord who has expanded his reign to most of the world and declared himself Emperor.
Katara thought she was someone with unbreakable hope, but this world—this place—its devoured her. Surrounded by her enemy on every side, she has no one to turn to. Her home is hundreds of miles away, and she's been forced to live as a prisoner. The only thing keeping her alive is her ability to heal. The Fire Lord uses her to fix his wounded soldiers, and then she returns to the darkness of her cell. It's been seven years since she last saw the snow in the South Pole. Seven years since she's seen her brother. With no one to train her true power, she feels helpless. She's only ever around water to heal—she's not a fighter. She has no way out.
Until she sees him again. The boy with the scar—she saved his life when she was twelve. It was how they discovered her abilities. And he may be the one to finally restore her hope. He may be her way out. If only she hadn't gone and fallen in love with him along the way.
