According to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, a cat could be simultaneously alive and dead, as long as it remains unobserved.
Until Yuu gets home, she is both alive and dead. She will get return home, if it is the last thing she does.

Or; Yuu gets hit by a carriage and awakes trapped in a coffin. A fire breathing cat-thing attempts to burn her alive in order to rob her of her clothes, once, twice, and then a thrice for good measure. She is misgendered, misnamed, and thrown into an abandoned mansion. This unfortunately sets the tone for the rest of her journey.
Fortunately, what Yuu lacks in magic, she makes up for in ingenuity and the foreign concept called "friendship". Don’t worry, “Yuu” can do it!

The real you has long been buried underneath the pity layers you were bathed under.
