Summary
This riffs off Georgette Heyer’s The Quiet Gentleman, giving a view of Lord St Erth’s courtship of Drusilla Morville from the perspective of Lucius Austell, Lord Ulverston. Here it can be seen that Lucy does help out his friend Ger (he loves rescuing people!) but not in quite the way he thinks…
It starts from Chapter 6 of the novel, with the ball at Stanyon. I’ve interwoven bits of dialogue from the real book, but most of it is filling gaps, or detailing conversations which Heyer only hints at.
Gifted to JMom and terri_testing, because they inspired me to write this (holidays are a lovely thing, one has much more time to write and think).
Now finished: muse gifted me with an interesting insight from Marianne Bolderwood in the last chapter.

Summary
Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya has a lot of mostly unprocessed trauma and needs to learn to loosen up. Kai Shima is an incredibly hardworking third seat and could probably stand to do the same, just as soon she stops worrying about always mucking things up. When powerful hollows start popping up and strange events rock Seireitei, the two find themselves pushed together to find out who exactly placed a target on the their backs and what they want, before someone ends up dead.
Set (I'm guesstimating) 30 years after TYBW. Edit: I used to have a note here about how I hadn't read TYBW but...then I read it so we're all good to go there. Toshiro's all grown up, obvs. First person POV. This isn't a slow burn bc I like my characters together and taking on danger side by side, but, we gotta take our time a little bit, right?

Victor says this in a normal tone of voice. Anyone could hear him. Yuuri looks around, but if anyone is paying attention, they’re pretending not to.
“Naturally, I asked what I would have to do to get in your pants.”
“Ah.” Yuuri blushes. “How embarrassing. What do you mean, naturally? Why would you ask that?”
Victor tilts his head. “Because I want to get in your pants. I thought that much was obvious by now.”
