Rocky hums loudly before straightening its body up, legs all standing straight. I chuckle quietly at the action.
"Grace! Grace is-!" It whistles harshly again, pushing all the air from its vents before starting again. "Adrian overfeed Grace." It dips its carapace low again as it thuds its rear leg against the ground. Very judgemental.

Summary
Disaster strikes the Hail Mary on its way back to Earth. The taumoeba escape their breeding tanks, and make it to the fuel lines. Stranded in space just outside the Tau Ceti system, Dr Ryland Grace can't do anything. He can't go save Rocky, he can't go save Earth. Exhausted, out of options, and distraught, he fills the ship with nitrogen, and takes his final breath.
Next thing he knows, his eyes flutter open in his San Francisco apartment. It's a year before ArcLight touches down on Earth, but he remembers the Petrova Task Force.

"You should teach me to read those before we get to Erid, so I can be polite." As Grace considered the linework, already picking up on some vague ideas from the shapes in Rocky's carapace, something else occurred to him. "So… I picked 'Rocky' because your outer shell looks like stone."

"Retroactively, yeah." Grace bent at the hips, getting to Rocky's 'eye' level. "So what'd you name me?"
