Summary
"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Grace & Rocky decide to go check out an SOS call. It could have gone better. (Trust me, eventual codependent friendship all around.)

Summary
Grace looks down, contemplative. "I don't think it'll be the same as yours, 'cause I don't really… I mean I don't actually remember my childhood, uh. Not since I got up here."
The idea sticks in Simon's throat and he suddenly finds himself hoping Grace says yes. Impulsively, he says, "I'd– love to. Be there for you, if you did want to try it. Just… I'd wanna help." Help keep a little Grace safe and happy. Help keep someone happier than Simon got to be.
Grace must see some of this rush of emotion in Simon's face, because he sits up a little straighter, staring at him. "...I think I wanna try it." He admits. "Uh, but be forewarned… I expect a lot of candy during it." He says, with a smile big enough to broadcast it as a joke.
Simon finds he is immediately willing to fantasize about spoiling a little Grace, however. "Careful, or I'll let you, and then you'll give yourself a stomachache."
Grace laughs, eyes crinkling closed, and Simon can only dazedly smile back at him.

Summary
Curled up at the back of the closet, against the wall and very unsuccessfully trying to hide himself behind the edge of a box of hazmat suits, is Simon.
Grace stares. Simon stares back, seemingly frozen. He's sitting on the floor, legs curled up, hand halfway through shielding his face. The lighting isn't great, but his cheeks and eyes shine in a way that clearly show he's been crying. A lot.
"Oh my gosh," Grace starts, panic lurching into sympathy and quickly joined by shock. "Simon?"

Simon has barely age regressed before, and never in front of anyone else. But after the events in the SM-13 and while traveling with Grace & Rocky back to Erid, he needs new ways to heal.

Rocky knew exactly what was going on, and hated hated hated that it had to happen on what had supposed to have been a nice, calm, fun day for both Grace and the kids.
Grace has a flashback. Luckily he has a wonderful family to help him through it.

“Adrian will understand,” Rocky says confidently. “Will be excited to meet alien. Will be excited to meet person who brought me home.”
“Yeah, and I'm excited to meet them too, but after that!” Is this a translation error? A cultural miscommunication? How is Rocky not getting it? “You're partners. They're not going to want some alien around while you're, like… going on dates and all that.”
“Does not mean no time for Grace.” Rocky’s starting to sound frustrated. Part of me feels bad, but the rest is just as frustrated. “Why think this, question? On Earth, just abandon friends when have mate, question?”
It's so clearly a rhetorical question, to which the answer is obviously supposed to be no, of course not. I freeze up anyway.

Summary
The Eridian thrills a high sound that doesn’t get picked up by the translator which means that it has no clear meaning. Like when a human gasps or sucks in a deep breath. It actually sounds a little like that. When they notice that I’m staring straight at them they scramble back into their hiding spot and hold very still.
A child, I realize with a start.
That’s a child!
“Hey,” I call and the kid squeaks again. I was about to get to my feet but abort the movement and crawl closer on my hands and knees until I'm inches away from the xenonite wall. I wait and it takes me much too long to realize that they don’t have to peek around the corner to see if I’m still there.
“Hey there,” I try again, my voice low and calm. It’s my teacher voice, the one I use for shy and scared students.
Used.
The fact that I haven’t had to use it for years and it still comes to me automatically almost knocks the air out of my lungs but this is not about me, it’s about making sure the little pebble doesn’t die of fright from the scary alien. “Hi, I’m Grace. It’s alright, you don’t have to be scared.”
