Summary
Something the book failed to warn them about (among many many other things) was the effects that come with holding court with the void. It's not totally noticeable, not at first, but as things start to settle down, it starts to become all the more apparent.

Falst knows he's the weak link of the group. The best he has is that he's ferin, and thats about it. He doesn't have any magic– no primordial gods possessing him, no starfire woven into his literal bones, no exploding into fire or lightning– he's just Falst. But these people need him, he owes them, and most importantly, they're his friends. So, regardless of his shortcomings, he refuses to let anything happen to them without forcing the threat to go through him first.

He merely smiled innocently, skipping over to his other electric, already finding the wire to plug it into the amp, “What? Just a friendly exchange of riffs. No stakes, right?”
But her eyes narrowed at him. She was not going to let her friend fall into the trap, “Nick, you don’t have to-”
“Oh. No, I want to!” Nick had already risen from the stool, strumming some warm up chords, “I would very much like to partake in this exchange.”
“Great!” Luke had put on his blue Fender and had connected it to the amp, “Let’s see how you do. Play whatever you want, but keep it on beat. And Julie,” he joined his hands together in a pleading manner, “if you will, pretty please?”
Julie sighed. Although she could tell this was going to end in a disaster, she still stalked over to her keyboard.
Switching it on, she pressed the button that activated the drum beats, setting the tempo.“Ugh. Boys...” she grumbled to herself.
Then she was kicking back on the couch, waiting for the show to start.
This oughta be good.

Summary
I may be a vast and immensely powerful MI, but even so (or perhaps, and especially so) I am not immune to finding artifacts in my functionality reports. Sometimes, something fails to get the grain of processing power it needs to complete the query in time and generates a jumble of recursive nonsense code as it stutters in place. I don't spare it another thought as I dismiss the error message and forward the report as reference for cleanup. It'll all be gone by the next cycle.

Maybe Hikaru should eat the fragment anyways. Even if it disappeared, that would still mean the company wouldn’t get their hands on it, right? Or would something crazy happen if Hikaru tried that…?

“Yes,” Gurathin confirmed, and then everyone was staring at me and looking all shocked and sad and whatever.
“Constructs don’t age the same way humans do,” I reminded them, before anyone could start thinking anything stupid like oh no, Murderbot is just a little kid and little kids shouldn’t be doing security and eleven year olds shouldn’t have guns in their arms. "Eleven is old for a SecUnit. Most of my inorganics are already past warranty.”

Summary
The Angel perplexes Ralsei far more than he can handle. How could he understand them? One moment, they are hugging him. The next, they choose to fight for the first time without any prior warning. Between days, they grow more tired, like something weighs them down. Ralsei's only purpose is to serve them and the Lightners, so perhaps he just does not understand how the Angel can change so rapidly. He can never truly understand them, despite trying so hard to do so. Yet, part of him keeps wondering. Curiosity gnaws at him the more time he spends in the Angel's presence.
After a frustrating three days with the Angel, Ralsei cannot make heads or tails of their behavior. They confuse him, and he confuses them. Perhaps, Ralsei was not thinking straight when he took drastic measures. Maybe, he had been too weathered down by the previous day in the church to be able to think rationally. Against his better judgement, he calls for the Angel by name.
They answer, and Ralsei finally sees the Angel for what they are.
