Hatsume Mei was weird.
It was a fact she knew all too well and she'd long since come to terms with how she was, she just didn't think she'd find someone just as weird as her. She also didn't except for that someone to accept her as more than just a weird friend but here she was dating the sweetest boy on campus.

Queen Zelda has a problem. She may, sort of, have a crush on her chosen hero. Maybe crush isn't the right word, as she's pretty sure she's in love. Love? What does she know about love? She's just being silly, surely this is a phase that will pass or she would have to get over it, because unfortunately, Link does not feel the same way.
She knows that, because she's been super obvious with her feelings, so surely if he felt the same way he would've said something, right? It's not like she'd been trained from a young age to mask her own emotions and perhaps has a warped view of what counts as "obvious".
(or rather, Zelda is thirsting something bad, but doesn't realize what is obvious to her, isn't obvious to everyone else)

He is ancient, too, he knows. It’s all anyone says about him anymore. No one he remembers meeting on his initial quest recognizes him except for Impa, Purah, and the Sages. Maybe it’s because his arm is not his arm and all that was ever important about him was that there was a special sword in his hand, because he isn’t following three steps behind the Princess whenever she shows her face in public, because he’s nothing but a legend to the kingdom he died to protect a hundred and some years ago, fading away with the passage of time.

Link's arm is not his arm. Zelda is not his Zelda. He struggles to reconcile when both are returned to normal.
