Despite being more than willing to help her by readily restoring her avatar’s damages time after time, Caine doesn’t quite understand why Pomni keeps attempting as frequently as she does to establish contact with Jax’s abstracted form, if the process is so painful for her body and her attempts so far have rarely ever managed to even get her past the deafening static noise and the destruction that the second stage of abstraction caused to his mind.
For a creature like him, built without a beating heart, the concept of love and the extraordinary strength that such a feeling can give to humans can be quite the puzzle to figure out. But if loving someone seems to mean being ready to go as far as risking your own life for them, then he feels compelled to try and do the same for the humans he’s come to care so much about.
