It started with an innocuous question.
It was during one bright day, when Yuder was visiting the town center. A young boy approached him, clutching a notebook to his chest. Yuder had seen the boy and his friends peeking at him around the corner for some time. It wasn’t strange behavior for the village children; they’d usually run as soon as he met their eyes.
This boy, too, was trembling, but he managed to blurt out a question through sheer determination.
“W-What’s your favorite Pokemon, mister?!”

"I went to the city once," the green-eyed boy says. "I had to go to the military to support my family. I live in the south now. Sometimes we visit the seven walls, but we don't have a lot. I think I was planning on joining the military here, too."
"So the two lives..." the violet-eyed boy murmurs. "They're the same, but different."

Summary
Cloud was different than Tifa remembered him - when they were kids he was quiet, yes, but it was due to his being shy. Cloud was nervous and uncomfortable in his own skin at the time, hiding behind silence from his fear that he wouldn’t be heard. Now, though, his silence was stronger, more secure than when the two had met before. Instead of something to fill, the silence was somewhat safe, instead of shying away from the stillness, Cloud stood firm in himself. It was strange remembering the shy little boy who left Nibelheim seven years ago, especially when faced with the man he was now.
“We have a bit more of it written out, budget and everything,” Tifa handed him a slip of paper with the basic run down. “Come by my bar later tonight, Seventh Heaven. Barret will be there to give you more details."
“Alright,” he shrugged. “My partner is going to be free around six. I’m not meeting anybody alone.”

Summary
During the mission to Nibelheim, Cloud Strife had the unfortunate timing to go into heat after suppressing it for as long as possible since he went to Midgar to follow his dreams of being a Soldier. However, he knew just the place to hide and wait out his heat. Unfortunately (fortunately?), a certain alpha caught wind of his scent and followed, leading to an unexpected encounter between two lonely souls that decided to bond as mates.
Zack accidentally locates them in his panicked search and reports. Which in turn brings a slightly amused Tseng to determine whether to safely move the pair or let them be until they’re out of the honeymoon phase. All the while Nibelheim is shellshocked once news spread that Midgar’s most desired bachelor is unavailable.

Cloud didn't know what to expect when he had been called to the scene. None of the team had ever handled a mer before.
Dripping silver hair, jagged bleeding scales, the burning green eyes, Cloud stared at the mer as he watched the creature shift restlessly the pond that was far too small for his body. The pond was only half full, with his body on full display in the gold lined mansion.
Cloud stepped into the room, holding the tarp and cloth, meeting the creature's exhausted, but infuriated glare. A vicious swipe of the creature's tail splattered water on the floor in front of him, a clear warning not to come any closer.
Stopping in place, Cloud slowly held out the cloth and tarp to show the mer, unfolding it where he stood. The mer's gaze lingered on the metal belts and plastic, before he met Cloud's gaze once more.
"We've come to rescue you," Cloud offered.
