It doesn't matter that today is Will's birthday. He shouldn't even be there, not when their plans are only really for Jane and Mike. He's intruding, and he knows himself well enough to know that he's not going to be able to put on a happy face and let himself be excluded without showing just how badly it hurts him. He'll only ruin their time together if he sticks around.
