After Jax discovered he likes being pet, he also discovered that he can barely function without constant pets now that he knows the feeling. But of course he can't admit that! That would be embarrassing!
So, what does he do instead? ...
Spiral, of course! :DDissociate! Do drugs! Rub his head on things like it could actually simulate the feeling of hands gently massaging his fur.
And tug on his ears every time he craves affection! As punishment!Well, all of that, and hang out with Caine. Caine definitely couldn't understand that this stuff is embarrassing, so him knowing is fine. (It's not like he's horrible at keeping secrets or anything.)

Summary
Pomni has been having dreams about Kaufmo for some reason. It escalates one night, where she dreams of them both on an adventure together, almost as if it were a memory. She puts the pieces together and realizes she is seeing through Ribbit's eyes.
All she needs to do is find out what they mean without letting Caine know she might be onto the way he manipulates their mind. This would be easier said than done if a misguided Caine didn't put her in a coma for an adventure. Pomni is stuck re-living various events of Ribbit's past in the circus and seeing different versions of Jax while Jax accidentally lets slip how much he’s unravelling to the rest of the cast.
or I emotionally torture Jax while giving Pomni an existential crisis for around twenty chapters. Ft Jax yearning with a British accent.
Technically set in an AU where Caine realises that making a fake exit was a bad idea and sucks up to the cast afterwards.

*READ THE TAGS*After discovering that there may be a way to come back from abstraction, Caine works on slowly bringing each one back, piece by piece, while also keeping up with the humans… interesting requests.
Jax, post abstraction, starts going down a rabbit hole (pun intended) of self discovery and reflection, including some much needed apologies. While she’s still kinda an asshole, and it’ll take time to rebuild bridges… at least she’s trying.
She’s not coming out of the closet, though. You can drag her out dead.

' She can’t help her mind wandering though, back to a topic that’s been a frequent visitor in her mind for weeks now, relentlessly pounding against her skull.
Caine had come up to them two months prior, practically glitching with excitement, sharing that they may be able to potentially heal abstraction. He wasn’t positive, but he’d been working closely in the digital files of the Circus lately, giving himself something to do in between their regular activities. He found that the files of their lost friends still existed, but were corrupted, damaged, though fixable, if he was looking at it correctly at least. He couldn’t promise anything, but he had hope that they could actually do something.
This had caused excitement to rise within the group, eyes sparkling and discussion rampant. Voices had overlapped each other, and Pomni couldn’t help the heaviness on her chest of their most recent cast member lost lightening a bit at the positivity of the group, eyes drifting to the large circus tent he resided in most days, when he wasn’t in the aquarium with the others. '
