The third time The Thought crosses Roy’s mind, it doesn’t come as a sudden realisation like it had both times before. He doesn’t just happen to blink or some shit and get struck with the fucking epiphany that Jamie Tartt clearly, desperately needs a hug. It’s not a jolt to his system, not a surprise, not this huge blindsiding Thing that appears out of nowhere.
No, this iteration of The Thought creeps up like a bad cold: slowly, lazily to start, so that it doesn’t seem like such a big deal at first, but that’s how it fucking gets you, innit, because soon enough you’re knocked clear on your arse with the force of it.
And it’s fucking terrifying.

Summary
If Jamie could spend the rest of his life held in someone’s arms, he would in a heartbeat. Well, he’d need to be let go to play football, he supposes, but the rest of the time would be good enough.
For Roy, touch is just another way to show he cares. He’s fucking shit at words, but he makes up for it in physical contact when he wants to.
And for both of them, touch is something rare and precious. An indulgence. A want. A need. And its absence causes an ache that neither will ever confront.
It'd be a real shame if they just happened to have to.
