Fingers glided through his curls, stirring the city’s scents. He sighed heavily. The hands moved down his shoulders, across his smooth hips, hesitating for a moment before settling on his perfect buttocks. Star drew him close with an uncertain yet gentle gesture, and he placed his arms around his shoulders, playing with his hair, stroking and curling it between his fingers, just like his mother used to do when he was a child. He held his breath as his body filled with shivers. Star smiled, a false smile. His eyes didn’t laugh. Behind those fairy-colored retinas, there was nothing real.At that exact moment, Gale knew he was about to make the biggest mistake of his life, but he couldn’t think of anything else. He was fully aware of being a stupid idiot, as Shadowheart kept telling him.
He took Star’s bandaged hand in his and brought it to his lips to kiss it. “Thank you, for what it’s worth.” He sighed, closing his eyes painfully, and uttered the Safe Word agreed upon at the reception to terminate the program in case of emergency.
