That was the only thing filling the air, alongside ash. It made Finch’s lungs burn with the effort of breathing, heaving gasps that left her thirsting for more rather than sating her need for oxygen or an escape from this nightmare.
It was suffocating; not just the air, but her grief. Both things stung, like they had a vendetta against Finch herself. It wouldn't surprise her, since all the townspeople hated her enough to burn her house to the ground.
