Charla jolted a little, glancing back at her spouse. The blue heeler arched a brow back at her curiously from the kitchen doorway. Charla opened her mouth, then closed it, before managing to find the words she needed.
“It’s my brother.”
Understanding blossomed across the other woman’s face immediately. “Woof.” The reaction earned a laugh from the chinchilla. The tension she was feeling dissipating almost entirely. Bluey strode forward into the kitchen, not touching the phone, just draping an arm around Charla’s shoulders. The direct contact was a balm that Charla needed. A steady reminder she wasn’t alone anymore. The shorter woman gladly leaned into her partner’s hold.
“I don’t know if I want to know what Chip needs this time.” She admits as the phone finally goes still.
