Tommy was handed a small flyer in printed in black and white, with the words “POETRY NIGHT - OPEN MIC” splayed across the front in bubbled font. He fumbled with his binder as he took it, eyes wide as he said, “are you sure? I mean, I love poetry and all, but I don’t think-I’m not sure—what if I can’t write poetry?”
Mr. Sam’s dark eyes softened, and he reached out to place a hand on Tommy’s shoulder, squeezing it gently. “Everyone has to start somewhere; every poet, from me to Rudy Francisco, started off without knowing a clue about what we were doing. Tommy, it’s not about if you can or cannot write poetry, it’s about if you want to.”

Summary
This relationship with Wilbur, the way Tommy’s heart jumps when he walks in– definitely not healthy. But Tommy’s not very well-versed in healthy relationships. He knows what they should be, yes– a take and a give, but Tommy is a taker and he’s used to that. A burden for those who can’t handle it.
(or, my take on the "Dark SBI" trend i've seen going around, except.... well. SBI aren't really the smooth manipulators they want to be. Tommy, on the other hand-)

Wilbur rolls his eyes. “I’m just patching you up out of some misplaced sense of guilt or nostalgia or whatever; after this, you can try and arrest me again as much as you want-”
“Nostalgia?” Tommy interrupts. He squints at the figure, all confusing tangents and cynical jokes, the bird still perched on his head. “What, do I know you or something?”
Wilbur’s face darkens. He reaches out a hand, rubbing absently at a long slash going through his trench coat, a tear in the seams of it all. Tommy stills.
“No,” the villain finally mutters with a brittle laugh. “No, you don’t.”
…Or: Superhero AU in which Wilbur, upon waking up in an alternate universe, accidentally becomes a villain. Maybe not a very good one, though - he remains insanely, outrageously protective over the very heroes (and vigilante) hunting him down.

He did not do any of these things. Orpheus took to the lands of men. He shed his past like a snake sheds its skin and wandered into the forest. He took a name that he wrote for himself. He carved it with a knife into a tree.
Wilbur Soot named himself after the phoenix that emerges from the ashes, flame-bright wings covered in coaldust and dark powder.

George, as one is wont to do after being punted violently by the universe via horror movie trope, screeches, not unlike a noisy tea kettle. Also not unlike a noisy tea kettle, the fucking demon chasing him wheezes it’s ass off, scurrying down the hill after him.
The hill George is still flying down at the speed of light, mouth open in a pterodactyl screech, clout goggles sliding down his nose bridge.
