Summary
What if Shane Hollander ended up with Rose Landry? What if they had gone as far as getting married and having kids?
Over a decade, after they had their first kid Shane came to the realization that he is gay. The two of them divorce but stay close friends.
Now his children have reached an age where they want to know more about Shane's life as a hockey player and about his infamous rivalry with Ilya Rozanov, and why it turned into a forbidden topic in their household.
Shane starts sharing his stories (after much pestering) and quickly realizes that he is still deeply in love with Ilya.

“Ilya, what are we gonna do?” Shane says.
Ilya finishes whatever he has been doing on his phone, and tosses it gently to the bed beside him. He crosses the room to Shane, stands in front of him, squeezes into his shoulders with his big hands, rubbing them like he means to warm them up.
“Looks like we will have a little vacation,” he says, with a big obnoxious grin.
Boston and Montreal are sent to Paris to play against each other in an exhibition series in January 2017. Ilya and Shane decide to stay in Paris for one more night. Just one more night, so they can talk. Maybe finally understand each other.
They aren't expecting a volcano to erupt in Iceland and close all the airspace in Europe, leaving them stranded there. Together.

Summary
Back in Canada after the Olympics, March, 2014, Shane isn't handling the breakup that wasn't well. He finds the only place that he can sleep in is the recently completed investment property, for no particular reason.
Meanwhile, on their last game before playoffs, Ilya casually walks through the city streets since he has no other plans and happens to walk by the condo on accident and is totally normal about the fact that the lights are on and someone is up there despite them not having contact since they've been back.
It's fine. Everyone is fine.
